New Year, New Idea

Greetings, Readers!

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to reflect on 2014. I can’t say that I’m overjoyed. In fact, it was a rather disappointing year for MCC. While the humane society was successful in adopting out 970 dogs and cats, donations were scarce. A friend of mine bought a few little crafts I’d made to sell in order to raise money, but the only other donation was ours: we adopted our dog, Phoebe, on November 1st.:)

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I couldn’t be too awfully disappointed. After all, the charity was my choice. For the past 3 years I’ve chosen the charity – the ones that were near and dear to my own heart. And I suppose that’s not very fair to everyone else. Not everyone shares my experiences and reasons for funding colon cancer research or donating to a children’s hospital or saving homeless animals.

Everyone is different. Everyone has their own passions and worthy causes to which they donate their time and money. Everyone has a story or a personal reason behind their choice to support a particular charity.

So, for these reasons, I have decided not to make the choice this year. I’m leaving that up to you. Here’s how it works:

1) Make a donation to the charity of your choice.

2) Go to the “Donate” page on the MCC website and fill out the form, including the name of the charity and the amount.

3) Include an image of proof of donation . . . that could be a letter of thanks, an email with a confirmation number, etc. You can put it in the form or email it to me at mycharitychallenge@sbcglobal.net.

Once I receive confirmation of the donation, I’ll post it to the scoreboard and the MCC team will match it with miles! Plus, if you’d like to share your story or reasons for choosing your charity, you can contact me and I’ll write an article about it and post it here, on the website. (Don’t worry – I won’t share names.) It’s a great way to bring attention to the cause and, hopefully, generate more donations.

So there it is . . . a new idea for a new year. I can’t wait to see what happens! And be sure to visit the other pages. I’ve updated just about everything. Enjoy!
